About the Designer:

Margaret Ann Bird was born in an Indian Camp in Pawhuska, Oklahoma and is a member of the Osage tribe. As a fifth grader, Margaret started learning her craft by spending time with the elderly people in the tribe, knowing if she were going to do traditional clothing right, she would need the guidance of the older generations. As an adult, she went to the elders of each tribe and asked for detailed information about their regalia, permission to reconstruct the pieces and to show them her creations.

Margaret has been presenting fashion shows featuring traditional Indian clothing for more than 30 years. Margaret has been commissioned by many museums in the U.S. and Canada to make complete sets of Native American clothes for display. She has also shared her knowledge and skills by teaching classes on making traditional Native American clothing at different tribal headquarters, museums, and universities.  Her goal is to make a complete set of traditional men’s and women’s clothing representing all recognized tribes in the United States.
